- NOVELL RELEASES NETWARE FOR UNIX v3.11 TO PARTNERS

- What: Novell has released NetWare for Unix v3.11 (formerly Portable
- NetWare) to its NetWare for Unix partners. NetWare for Unix is
- a source code product that provides NetWare services such as
- file, print, communications, and messaging to customers using
- general-purpose operating systems like Unix, VMS and MPE.

- NetWare for Unix allows customers to extend access from their
- business-critical applications running on Unix or other general
- purpose operating systems to their desktop PCs.

- NetWare for Unix supports Unix, DOS, Windows and OS/2 clients.
- Macintosh clients are currently supported through native
- NetWare v3.11.

- Why: The new features in NetWare for Unix v3.11 will make it easier
- for partners to develop networking solutions for their
- customers.

- New Features: NetWare for Unix v3.11 provides additional features over the
- previous version of Portable NetWare, 3.01. These improvements
- include:

- ■ Full compatibility with NetWare v3.11 and NetWare v2.2

- ■ Support for NetWare Packet Burst technology that
- significantly improves wide- and local-area networking
- performance on NetWare networks

- ■ A new NetWare for Unix file system (NWFS) that eases the
- process of porting NetWare for Unix to general-purpose
- operating systems

- ■ New rprinter and pserver printer architecture that allows
- NetWare for Unix to integrate seamlessly with native
- NetWare print services

- ■ Support for the extended attributes of OS/2 clients

- ■ New NetWare C Interface for Unix application programming
- interfaces (APIs) to support the development of
- distributed applications on Unix-based servers

- When: NetWare for Unix v3.11 will begin shipping to Novell's NetWare
- for Unix partners in February.
